I have been trying to find a show quality black plastic distributor shield with the foil lining with little luck other than some rough used samples. There are no reproductions out there that I have found so NOS is my preference. Any thoughts on where one may be collecting dust on a shelf as NOS?

Re: 78 distributor shielding
David,
Big City Corvettes out in California has one pictured below for $74.97. It is in decent shape. Their part number listing is 14037640. You could also check with them to see if they have others in stock. Another great source for OEM parts is Bair's Corvettes in Pa. Email or give Brian a call, they have a lot of used parts. Paragon asks that you call for this part to see if they have a used one in stock.
Hope this helps, good luck!

1978 did not originally use the GM #14037640. That shield was used for later models and became SERVICE for 1978. The shield used for 1978 was GM #472811. How it differed I do not know.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 78 distributor shielding
Thanks Joe,
Big City listed it as original for L77-81. I was just trying to help David out. Like you though, not sure what the difference would be.Jimmy

That just goes to show how much they know. It could not POSSIBLY have been ORIGINAL for all of L1977-81 since the same shield was not used for all of those years. It will, however, SERVICE all those years. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 78 distributor shielding
Joe,
Your wealth of corvette parts knowledge is amazing😊 I'm not that familiar with the later C3 plastic shielding, when looking at the engines you just see the top of the shielding not so much the sides and they do seem to look similar. I've also noticed when searching for my 73 parts many of the vendors list parts as being right for numerous years when in fact they aren't.Jimmy

Sometimes, folks assume that parts which SERVICE an application are original for the application. 'Taint necessarily so. Very often, parts which are original for a later application become SERVICE for an earlier application. In this case, there were THREE distributor RF shields used over the L1977-82 period.
L1977-E1979------GM #472811
L1979-E1982-----GM #14017719
L1982-------------GM #14037640
Were the above all very similar? I'm absolutely sure they were. But, I'm equally sure that they were in some way different. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
