This car was assembled on or about May 25, 1957 at the St. Louis plant. Where did it go when it left GM until August, 1960 when it was brought to National Auto Dealers Exchange auction by Bob Palese Used Cars, 1601 Broadway, Camden, NJ? At that time, the car was white with red coves, racing tires were replaced with white walls and large hubcaps, the airbox components were intact, including the column-mounted tach, hoses, air ducts, and remnants of the roll bar brackets still attached to the frame. The car was driven for 3 years before owner turned it into a full blown drag racer through the 60's and early 70's. It raced successfully, car #777, painted blue with coves outlined in red. The car won the Eastern Nationals at York 30 dragways in 1965. Have owner history from the present back to August, 1960, then the trail goes cold. Would appreciate any owner or race information. Still looking for ownership information from May 1957 when this car left the GM plant. Would like to know the history from that date until August, 1960 when it was sold at National Auto Dealers Exchange auction.- Top

Re: Information Wanted 1957 Corvette Airbox #4229
I've traced this car's history to northeast drag strips in the early '60s and actually met the car's racer/owner, Jack Arnold of Pennsylvania.
We still can't find where it went after assembly at GM in late May or early June, 1957...to a dealer for racing or straight to a race driver?
If your memory is triggered, I sure would love to hear from you.
