    Re: 73 Quadrajet Leaking???

    Guys,
I removed the carb and drained all the excess fuel out of it. Set the carb up on end with the plug end up so any remaining fuel would run away from leak area. Used air to blow dry the area and scuffed up around the plug with fine sandpaper and really made sure everything was super dry and clean. Then I applied the JB Weld as recommended by all. Letting it cure for a couple of days till after Christmas ( it's going to be 70 here tomorrow)before reinstalling and letting fuel in.
Patrick I checked about putting the JB inside, but I would have to take the carb completely apart to get to that plug area. Even thought about taking out the filter to see if I could apply it through there but was afraid to damage that area.
If this fixes it, I'll be happy with it. Believe me this won't be my only deductions. I'll post photos when finished.
Thanks so much for always going out of your way to help.

Here is a photo for you. This is just with the inlet, filter and spring removed. The "hole" toward the right side of the photo is where the plug is located that you just attempted to seal. Plenty of room to pour in some JB Weld to seal it if you wanted.

Wow, that's another option. I thought about this as I mentioned above, but was worried about getting the JB weld some where it shouldn't be. There is a lot of room in there. Do you think having the foreign substance in that area with the constant fuel pooled there may weaken the JB weld and get into the carb over time? Wonder if any one else did it this way? Maybe I'm worrying too much about nothing. Another suggestion I got on this from one of the other forums was to use a small hammer and try peening the plug back in, as that was how they were originally installed? If my attempt works I'll be ok with it. You can't see this area easily when the air cleaner is installed on the 73. I'll take the deduct in points if it doesn't leak anymore.
Appreciate the photo and help Patrick.
        Merry Christmas!😊

The JB Weld, like most epoxies, is essentially impervious to gasoline.

Trying to "re-peen" the plug? FORGET IT. Someone who said that is dreaming.
