73 Ignition Coil Replacement Question for Judging

Continuing with my ongoing mission to get my 73 convertible back to as original condition as possible for Chapter Judging next year I have a few questions about the coils that I have in my possession. I have looked at many or most of the past threads on the topic but still, I'm not sure.
When I bought the car it had the big yellow ACCEL Super Coil on it. In a box of parts that came with my car, there was an older Delco-Remy Coil 1115202/D511 which I believe is for the 66. I removed the ACCEL coil which was also connected to a Ballast Resistor on the firewall. I installed the 202 Coil without the BR and the car has been running fine so far. For judging the JM says that the coil for the 73 small block should be the 1115270. It should have 270 and BR embossed on the side, but it does say that it should have Delco Remy embossed on the top. I do have a 270 BR coil it came off a 69 and it does not have Delco Remy embossed on the top, but it does have 270 BR embossed on the side. It is in very nice shape. I have not tried it yet on the car though. Will this be ok for judging? Does it need to be connected to a ballast resistor? I saw in one of the older threads that some thought the BR meant just that, it should be conncected a ballast resistor. Yet, I also read previous threads, stating that it did not need to be connected to ballast resistor, and that wasn't necessarily what the BR stood for
Also, at this time my car has the Breakerless Ignition in it, which it came with. I do have all the correct RFI Shielding, breaker plate, etc. to re-install the points if I decide to do so for judging.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated as always. JL maybe you'll chime in with your expertise..
    Regards,

Jimmy, They should say Delco Remy on the top. The theory of the BR needing a ballast resistor doesn't make sense to me as 73 didn't used a Ballast resistor but 66 did even tho the 202 coil doesn't have a BR on it. Not saying it isn't possible tho.

      Thanks Russ,
Thats what I thought too, I just purchased it, and I do have the opportunity to return it, if not satisfied. In my excitement and haste in finding one I missed noticing the top not having the words. I was more concerned with the letters and numbers on the side because of what the JM said. I just wanted an opinion from you guys before doing so. One of these days I'll learn to be more patient, and pay more attention to details. So, my quest for a correct one continues.

Original 270 BR coils are hard to find and expensive when you do find them.

Don't I know it. Paragon has the new repros with all correct lettering that would probably pass judging. They also still carry a new made in the USA one with correct markings for $140. CC has the imported ones too. I'd like to find an old one though. There are a few out there now online, but I worry that they won't work after I get it. You want to trust sellers who say they've tested the ones they're selling, but we now that may not always be the case. Another question that I have about the older coils that may need painted. Is there any truth to the fact that you should mask off and keep the separation between the top and the case because of a grounding issues?

Yes and no. They didn't have one in the form of a ceramic block with a wire on it, but did have a resistance wire wrapped in heat resistant cloth.

Each is a ballast resistor in function.
