Re: 1968 AC Compressor - Correct Part Number ??
Emailed a 68 Judge last nite. After enlarging it he also agrees that it is " 1 1 E . He said someone could have made a mistake in casting. Maybe a new kid on his first day. Stretching this But I did hear they used to put the new guys right out into production lines.
Would judges recognize this during the process. Thanks all, Jeff.68 L79 Convertible: Triple Black: Work In Progress, Body off. Now on!

Wayne,
It looks like what the judge told Jeff must have happened, they must have put the new guys out in production. I can see where someone would grab the wrong stuff and put it in the casting. That sure would be bad in the case of the engine blocks of the sacred vin & trim tag.
Can't seem to get a bite on my thread dealing with early serial #s.

Re: 1968 AC Compressor - Correct Part Number ??
Just for clarity, I was at a New England chapter speaker series which John Hinkley was the spokesman. He said that there where times when the " new kid" was thrown out into production. I added that in because every other component on the car was numbers correct. Trying to contact the owner of 40 years to see if it ever was changed out.
My apologies John , your original thread sort of went viral.68 L79 Convertible: Triple Black: Work In Progress, Body off. Now on!

I believe I found a good foil label with the "645" near the bottom. I'll post two pics of original and replacement. Does anyone do the correct typing as far as the date portion goes. Thank you, Jeff. Vendor was Corvette Central.68 L79 Convertible: Triple Black: Work In Progress, Body off. Now on!

Re: 1968 AC Compressor - Correct Part Number ??
No problem Jeff, while we've got it hijacked for the moment, here's a few shots from my '73. Thanks for pointing out where the casting dates on the compressor are located, learned something new !!
20151214_143547.jpg Compressor Model 1131002, Dated 11 25 2 1, Nov. 25th, 1972 - First Shift
20151214_142726.jpg Compressor casting date K 19 2, Nov. 19th, 1972 (at least that's what I see)
20151214_143617.jpg VIR Assembly Model 1131025, Dated 11 04 72 1, Nov. 4th 1972 - First Shift
All believed to be original equipment and all dates align great with my E13 (12/13/72) Body Build Date. The only thing is the '73-'74 JM refers to a VIR part number of 1131048 ?? My 1131025 matches up with Page 121 of the '73 AIM.
Anybody else have the same number for a '73 VIR ??
