I am just starting to get the interior back in my 71 LT-1 4 speed car, all the wire harnesses were replaced, I went to plug in the purple, and the purple with white wire to the switch located at the firewall behind the clutch peddle, I come to find out a small wire harness is rewired to convert one plug to another style, thats fine but it isn't there, no wires, I found them way up at the shifter ash tray area, so I wonder what I have here, the connector located there was folded over and wrapped with white tape, this is looking like a harness for an automatic car to me, question I hope that is the only part of the harness that differs, I did find a single wire with a connector in the same area that looks like it's for the auto trans position lamp indicator, so my question is where to go from here?, I can open up the harness and get the exit point in the right area, this has to be the wrong harness, or maybe there all this way, any ideas?, thanks Ron

Re: A question about the clutch safety switch wiring
Alan thanks for the picture, yes mine is the same, on the wire chart I have from Dr Rebuild it shows a wire connector at two locations, mine only has the one at the automatic trans location in the shifter area, I will call Lectric Limited and talk to them, it is there covered with tape or was never installed, I may have to unwrap the harness and relocate the console end to the clutch area end, these harnesses are designed for auto trans or 4 speed, same part number so I may have a screwed up harness.- Top

Re: A question about the clutch safety switch wiring
Hi Ronald,
On my car the two wires for the clutch switch exit the harness about 8" from the fuse block, the wires are just a couple of inches long and enter 2 blue in-line connectors that introduce a capacitor at the at point. The 2 wires then continue a few inches further to the connector for the safety switch.
Here's the best I can do for now. All this is going on to the left side of the clutch arm.
Regards,
Alan

Re: A question about the clutch safety switch wiring
Alan I do not have any wires exiting at that location, I am going to undo the harness and see what is inside, if nothing I will use the console area wires, thanks for the help, it looks like who built the harness forgot something or there wrapped inside the harness , thanks Ron- Top
