I thought you were referring to the basic engine rather than peripherals, although the flywheel and clutch could be regarded as part of the basic engine rather than peripherals. Those components might be regarded as HD and were essentially the same for L-78 and L-88. The starter was not in any way a HD component. It was identical to the starter used on all other big blocks except for the starter nose. The nose had to be different because of the flywheel's 153 tooth count versus the 168 tooth count for other big blocks.
The radiator was unique to L-78 and L-88 (and most LS-6, too). However, I do not regard it as a HD component. It actually had about the same cooling capacity as the copper/brass radiator used on other 66-67 big blocks although it was a bit lighter weight.
I am not aware that L-88 used a ribbed block. If it did, it would surprise me.
