    Intake Manifold Contradicting Numbers

I have a 1965 convertible with the original numbers matching 300 hp 327, I was looking into the carburetor because it is a holley and i know the 65 300 hp came with a carter afb. In my inquiry to why it has a holley I looked up the intake manifold numbers 3872783 and the numbers indicate that it is a 1966 300hp intake but the date stamped A 8 5 indicates it is made january 1965, much too early for the serial code to say its a 1966. I have attached photos of the casting numbers and if anyone knows about this I would love to know what is up with these numbers.

I'm not sure what your intake is from but it should be #3844459. Don H.

I know the car originally should have had an intake marked 3844459 and a carter afb but i am just curious why a 1966 intake has such a early 1965 date stamp

It's a very curious situation. It's possible the date code is a foundry mistake (i.e. the "5" should have been a "6"). If one were to assume the date code is correct, how does the date code line up with the build date of the car?

What is the part number and date code of the carburetor?

The car rolled off of the assembly line on January 26 1965 just little after the date code on the intake and the carburetor is a holley model 4160

Colvin (Chev by the Numbers '65-69) says 3872783 was used '66-7 Corvette as well as '66 Passenger, Chevelle, Chevy II, Corvette.

But also says accepts either a Carter or Holley carb, depending on application. Readily seen by identifying the multi-carb mounting flange [the cast "H" on yours] ....intake also used extensively as a service replacement. This seems to be your case.

Could someone with a Colvin book up to '64 check if he says that same # also used for service for years prior.

I don't see where 4160 carb models were even used for small blocks prior to the 1966 model year. What is the LIST # on the air horn?

In digging around the interweb, I found several other 3872783 manifolds with very early '66 casting dates. Is it possible that late '65 Corvettes might have been equipped from the factory with this manifold?

My 65 with the same 300HP 327 was built several months after the OP's car and it has the correct #3844459 manifold and AFB carb. all original and properly date coded.
