I converted the points distributor to the Pertronix 1181LS electronic distributor and i want to know if there will be any issues if I use the std. ignition coil with this distributor. I'm planning on using the original correct replacement coil #264 for my 427 390 hp car. Will this work??

Dave,
That question may be better suited for Petronics but I think they will probably try to sell you something else.
Be careful with these reproduction coils.- Top

Re: 67' big block electronic distributor conversion and ignition coil use
The stock coils are not designed to run continuously on 12 volts meaning that the ballast resistor must still be in place feeding the coil a reduced current.- Top

Re: 67' big block electronic distributor conversion and ignition coil use
I had a bad experience timing with the petronix. I went back to points and no issues. Just got back home yesterday putting more than 4K miles on the 65 up and back on the NCRS road tour. Was just like clock work.
I see no advantage to the petronix.- Top

Re: 67' big block electronic distributor conversion and ignition coil use
Check with Pertronix, but as I recall, the #1 and #2 Pertronix work with stock coil but the "Ignitor 3" has to use one of their coils. Be sure to follow their wiring suggestions.
I've has Pertronix for years with no problems and no more fooling with points.- Top

Re: 67' big block electronic distributor conversion and ignition coil use
A Pertronix is nothing but a glorified Hall cell with some electronic smarts - you prob have 4-6 of them in your modern vehicle. The Ingitor III version of the Pertronix requires bypassing the ballast resistor so, no a stock coil won't do the job, nor would I use the Pertronix Flamethrower -- now those are poor quality. An MSD Blaster-II 8202 coil works nicely with the Pertronix but its red - you'll want to paint it black. You could go with the MSD Blaster-II 8222 Hi-Vibration coil, more money and its epoxy filled but it is already black.
If you wanted to stay with stock coil and ballast resistor then the Breakerless SE points conversion would be better and is undetectable from points. I run that in my '63 and the above Pertronix/Blaster mix in my '61...- Top
