Evercoat Metal Glaze sets up too fast

    Hi all,

I have three Corvettes that I'm working on the bare bodies all at once. With three cars, there are lots of small places here and there where fiberglass strands are gone, small grooves and pits, etc. and I've been filling them in with Evercoat Metal Glaze. This is fine for touchups, but with setup in 3-5 minutes, I'm spending all my time repeating the process for just a small area of car at a time over and over. And, yes, I've tried keeping the Metal Glaze in the refrigerator and using only a tiny amount of hardener, even to the point where it doesn't set up at all. Any amount of hardener that makes it harden gives me only a tiny window of time to get it on before I'm spreading Play-Doh

I need something that sets up in 30 minutes, so I can mix a whole lot at once and do the three cars in one step. Any ideas on a different product?

    Thanks,

    Bob

Help me out - I'm unfamiliar with the product - but why use something called "Metal Glaze" on Fiberglass?

Ever try a product "DuraGlass"? for repairs like that sort?

Bob , I like Evercoat products . But no matter what product you are using in cool temps.you should only mix what you can use in less than 5 minutes and you need to use a little more hardener . In hot temps (90s) use allot less hardener & only mix what you can spread in about 2 minutes . I hope you are using blue hardener , it is a med. dry .I agree the metal glaze dries very fast . We only used yellow hardener with it . Metal glaze is not to be used as a filler but as a smooth filler coat over your filler because it spreads smooth and sands easy . I dont think you will find anything that has a working time anywhere near 30 minutes , as I said about 5 minutes tops. Corvette body work cant be rushed concentrate on one car at a time .... Bill

Bob, Try using "dolphin Glaze" by U-POL, look it up, I use it all the time for pin holes and such. No glaze is intended for big areas,

The Evercoat glaze is excellent for pin holes - mix a little at a time and dont mix it too "hot"
            It will kick quickly
Just do little spots at a time.
            Normal.
Dont put it in the fridge.
Just do a little at a time.....
