Re: Delco remy starter 1107649-6d11 question.
lewis: I think the starter you have is off a 56 chevy passenger car 265 cu. the correct starter for a 56 vette should be #1107627, so Ray is correct (not uesd in C1 corvettes as per NCRS spec guide)steve- Top

Re: Delco remy starter 1107649-6d11 question.
My 1957 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (Mar. 1957) lists GM # 1933903 as the starter part number for 55-56 ALL, CORV. (8 cyl.) 12 Volt (exc. H.T.) with the following description: "(less switch) (1107627 on n/plate)". This agrees with the stamped part number 1107627 as mentioned by Steve. The number 1107649 does not appear in any of the the descriptions of the other starter in the 1957 parts catalog.
I sold my 1956 Chevrolet Parts Catalog years ago. As Steve suggested it might be from a 1956 Chevrolet 265 with A.T. (see link below).

Re: Delco remy starter 1107649-6d11 question.
Beware using later parts catalogs to describe earlier year parts usage!
'56 & '55 parts catalog lists: 55 Pass, 8 cyl. 55-56 Corv. (etc.---) usage stamped 1107627 PN 1930389
'56 Parts catalog lists: 56 Pass, 6 cyl. stamped 1107644 PN 1933903
56 Pass. 8 cyl. stamped 1107645 PN 1933904- Top
