    66 corvette trim plate date

My Trim Plate has a date (11 18 5) stamped on it just above the "BODY BY CHEVROLET", and the PROTECT-O-PLATE has 11-17-65 delivery date handwritten on it by the dealer, Barford Chevrolet. My friend's car was built about 2 weeks before mine and has no such date. All the Trim Plates I see in Noland Adams do not show this date either. Is this something the dealer did when they received or sold cars? It seems I have read this someplace but can't find any source. Thx

A good picture would be nice, Paul. But, I believe that date stamps on the trim tag comprise a letter for the month and two digits for the day...that's it.

dealers did some funny things. Apparently it was recommended at one time that dealers stamp the delivery date on the top area of the VIN tag on C2 cars right after the embossed letters DD. I've seen some done there and its pretty ugly. I bet it is even uglier stamped onto the TRIM tag.

        Paul ,

I thought I remembered reading that also , so I checked. There may be more , but here is at least one post that speaks of it . Apparently your car came from a rare , and only somewhat obedient, Dealer .

Gm wanted the delivery date stamped for warranty purposes . Most were stamped on the trim tag because it was softer metal .
Barford Chevrolet was a major seller of Corvettes in the sixties . I think they were in with Yenko ? My 70 came from Barford .Dealer and building is long gone .

OK, I think you guys have pretty much confirmed my belief that it was added by the dealer. The date stamped on the TRIM PLATE is a day later than the the handwritten date on the PROTECT-O-PLATE, and they did a very neat job stamping it. Thanks to everyone for their input!
