    C1 Door weatherstrip

I am installing new door weather stripping on my repainted 57 and was wondering if it's better to install the weatherstrip after the door has been hung and adjusted or before ? Has anyone done it both ways and have any helpful advice. Thanks, Bill

    Re: C1 Door weatherstrip

I have done it both ways and for me it was easier to do when the door is off of the body. Key is to start at the formed window post end, work your way down slowly and be sure not to stretch the weatherstrips when you are feeding them around. Once you get to the upper rear of the door just snip it off, place your clip at the top and don't forget the push-in buttons in both the front and rear. Seems to me that if the w/s is applied correctly, it would be easier to adjust the door than to try to do it in reverse. I am sure someone will comment on putting them on as the factory did which was after the door was hung, but most likely before the door was adjusted.

Bill, I have not done it on my '57 as the original is still on the car but I did help a friend do his '60 with the door on the car. I agree with Garry as it would seem easier with the door off the car. With the door off you don't have the issues of getting easily to the front post, getting to the underside of the door (either lying on the floor, sitting on the sill and reaching under, or on a lift and reaching up), etc. With the door on a bench/table walk the stripping around at a comfortable level. Garry. Thanks for the advise. Do you normally "round off" the edge on the weatherstripping that goes into the corners on the door to get a better seal and fit. I know the factory doesn't do it that way but I tried this method on the hood and it seemed to work well.

William, I am not sure I know what you mean by "rounding off". So, I guess the answer to your question is also no. Tell me more. Thanks.
