My antenna has stopped working in the up position on my 1994 convertible. Motor does not come on when turn off radio etc. I saw a thread yesterday were someone talked about accessing the power unit through the tail light but now I can't find that discussion again. In addition I was confused by the discussion about the "ribbon" and when you need a new or rebuilt antenna. I must admit I am not very good on searching the past threads but if anyone can help me out I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Re: C4 Power Antenna
I tackled the antenna issue three years ago on my '84 and it was definitely a project! I assume the '94 would be similar, but perhaps easier on a convert. There was definitely no access through the taillight opening-all was done from below except the connections that required pulling up part of the carpet in the storage area. My problem was the nylon ribbon which is easy enough to replace once you get the whole unit out of the car. (I could hear the motor run on mine, so assumed it was the ribbon.) I ordered the repair kit from Eckler's and there were two models/numbers it could possibly have been so I ordered both and returned the one not needed as they suggested. (No way to tell which one was correct until taken out-not something determined by production date of the car) Replacing the entire unit is probably no more difficult than just the ribbon if you need to remove the entire assembly anyway. Perhaps they changed a few things by the time later C4's were built and your job will be easier than mine!- Top

Re: C4 Power Antenna
I has been a few years since I removed a C4's antenna. Remember lifting the rear hatch and removing the plastic pieces from the drivers side rear hatch support to the area around the rear window latch just the left side to disconnect electrical connections. The rubber piece going around the electrical wires going into C4's body was a tight fit in the body.- Top
