    c1 / 1959 grease pen marking

I have decided to try my hand with a c1 / 1959 restoration. The car is a 2 owner (3 being me) 270 hp car, with what appears to be some racing history prior to 71 when owner 2 bought it; as evident by the modifications to the suspension, fuel cell etc. It has been painted at least twice but despite that i have been able to scrape back the truck area and found the original grease pen stating the color. During preparation for the body lift i also found job numbers under the door panels, along with pencil markings in the hinge area and inside the doors.

My questions is where else should i look, to cautiously scrape down, before sending the body to the strippers?

One other area you might look is behind the right hand seat. If the 59 had a hardtop originally from the factory it will have "HT" in green grease pencil there!

In addition to the locations you mentioned, I found my job number under the dash pad as well as on the top of the frame where the "X" is at the tail of the trans.

I also found my job number on the inner fender well near the firewall on the drivers side as I was soda blasting. However, I didn't find one on my pass side. There was also a job number behind my speedo in the round domed area of the gauge cluster. And I found my color on the rear pass side bulkhead in the trunk area.

Take a very close look inside the glove box compartment (between seats). Rarely does anyone strip paint from there but original overspray will be inside. It might be covered up by subsequent resprays so scratch around a little and see what comes up.

I will be stripping it with plastic media for Ron
This is a professional that has done several of my bodies and does an excellent job for me.

I did some scratching around and found the "IVORY" in green in the RH side of the trunk bulkhead
I will scratch around on the RH seat area see what I can find
The job number for this car is everywhere..... doors, LH door posts,

We got back the doors and loose parts from the stripper last night.. they look great. the stripper preserved all the job numbers for me. I have also found grease pen markings on the top of the dash along with markings on the passenger firewall, instrument cluster. still need to do some searching before the body is stripped... i know i enjoy the meets and hanging with friends but finding the "historical" markings on the car is a charge!!!

I plan to have the web page up and running shortly with the pictures from the barn/warehouse car was parked in for the last 12years, the homecoming that resulted in a roll over of my truck, as well as documenting the rebirth.

Thanks for the assistance everyone. I was able to find the color in grease pen and with some help and good eyes found the HT for the hard top, and the grease pen job number on the dash. Got some good pictures. The stripper i am working with has done a great job of preserving the grease pen> i know it will all be covered when the car is done but neat piece of "archeological" history to maintain the hand writing form the line worker in 1959 with the car.

on a related note the frame is now fully disassembled and have found the inspection markings on the rear end, front crossmeber and the steering components. Interesting how they have survived... ill bet my new truck wont have the markings 60 years from now.
