1967 Big Block Outer Flange and Inner Half Shaft Cap Bolts
Re: 1967 Big Block Outer Flange and Inner Half Shaft Cap Bolts
Another bolt in question as per finish in the JG.
There are 4 bolts holding the strut bar bracket to the differential, part# 454905. This is a 3/8-16 x 3/4" bolt 300M (Grade 8).
I have found this car had 3 Grade 5's and one Grade 8. The Grade 8 has a circle with 6 radial lines. It appears to be originally black phosphate.
(insert photo here later)
The description in the P&A Standard Parts Catalogue states that for 300M bolts......
"Those showing 300M are Chrome Nickel Steel...."
What is the color of this bolt as specified? I cannot get a definitive answer through my research.
Reproductions are dichromate(gold) in color and I don't think this is correct. I need to get the proper Grade 8 bolts for proper specified strength for this bracket. bl-406_85.jpg
I believe the color should be as commonly seen as a black oxide/phosphate finish as other Grade 8 bolts of the era were. The JG specifies cadmium/zinc(silver) finish which I think may be erroneous.

Rich, contrary to what you think they are bright zinc grade 8. That is TFP. 67 headmarkings are WB, AS (large and small font), S (2 different configurations) and a few more. Hope this helps. I can post pictures if desired and if you need right ones I have them. Rich.

Thanks Rich, That's good info. Are they 6 radial lines? Pictures would be great.
I'll drop you a PM too.
Rich
edit...I just wire-wheeled that one I have here. It was painted with heavy black paint and after cleaning I see there is the "WB" and six lines.
