How to tell an original Firestone F70x15 - 1970 Corvette
Re: How to tell an original Firestone F70x15 - 1970 Corvette
Tread pattern should look like this. Usually, Firestone uses a Julian date. 152 would be 15th week of 1972. Last few numbers of the serial number.

Looking for specifics on how to tell an original F70x15 from a repro. Also how to decode the tire code/date to confirm its correct for my date range.
I know about the 7 treads vs 5. What are the other tell tells? How can I decode the date code?
Thanks,
Dave
David,
Check the archives on dating and details for your 1970. There has been a lot of discussion on this. All 70's would have the "short" date and only Goodyears can be decoded. Firestone's cannot. The long codes began in early 1971 so they don't apply to a 1970.

Hi David,
Here's a difference I noted when looking for original tires.
I'm not sure WHY there's the difference though.
One is the RWL spare from my 71 and the other is of unknown origin.
Different molds? One for production, one for service? One for production, one for tire dealers?
I'd be interested in hearing people's thoughts.
I didn't see the tire, just pictures of it.
Regards,
Alan
