I bought an aftermarket shield and it vibrates against the hood. I tried bending it. also put a 1/2" shorter belt on hoping that the compressor would sit lower. Has anyone had any issues with the shield or does someone have any ideas for me that stops the sling oil? Dutch

i have a compressor guard on mine and no issues. Your AC belt should be 57.5 " long according to an old Paragon catalog. Try taking the belt off and adjust the compressor outward till you get clearance. Use a board or string across the hood opening to observe the geometry of the compressor

Harry,
I have a small block. I would guess the belt is measured on the outside. Regardless, it should get you in the ballpark. Also the AC belt comes close to the lower radiator hose, about 1/2" if I recall.- Top

Re: 1966 a/c compressor shield fit
Harry,
5 3/4" on all but the 64/65 365 HP. By the way, compressors, even though the book says expect a little leakage, should NOT leak oil out the front. The hub clutch is metal to metal. Oil that with leakage and see how much it slips! You can't but might hear it. The reason the compressors leak is the O-ring surfaces. I test my compressors at over 300psi. I found the leakage due to rough O-ring surface on the shaft. The fix was to buff ALL O-ring surfaces for maximum sealing. There is a inside surface where the ceramic seal O-ring seats that is especially hard to buff, but it pays off in the long run because the A-6 was bullet proof. The main failure was the very well designed ceramic seal O -ring seating. The shaft surface and the case surface needed to be smoooooth.
