that's a great question. I am anxious to see if Pete chimes in. I think that the item that makes the key needing to be pushed in to turn on the ACC to the left is the second brass pin in the switch (replacements only have one brass pin) but I could be WAY off in my speculation. Let's see what Pete thinks....ARA

Russ - My father was a Tool & Die Marker & I'm sure he could do it & I'd bet a good Tool & Die Maker could do it, but I have no idea what it would cost & who might want to do it. It's your car & your call; but if you want a one that operates like a p/n 1116673 Delco-Remy ignition switch, I think there is an easier solution than trying to convert the GM 1966-1967 replacement p/n 1116686 Delco-Remy ignition switch or some aftermarket ignition switch. Peter. How much or how far does the key need to be pushed in on those type switches? Thanks

Gentlemen, After Peter's comments on 66 switches needing to be pushed in to access acc. I did some much more careful examination of my 66 switch and it DOES need to be pushed in farther to access acc. I think mine may be worn some so that if one turns the key toward acc hard enough, it seems to slide by whatever is stopping it before pushing it in. It defiantly does have a stop tho and when using a little lighter hand, it will then push in and turn to acc.

I got my answer Pete by further examination of my switch. I would say about 1/16 of an inch.
