Wow, those 68 AIR systems just got more valuable. The new Texas two step registration law, starting 3/1/2015, will require the smog system to get 68 & up car inspected and then if it fails, no registration. Without the computer verification of inspection, your are in trouble, see link. It is kind of hard to figure out, cause it's a government thing. I don't care if it is the great state of Texas, it was birthed by politicians. http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/rsd/vi/...nCriteria.aspx

Exempt: Antique License Plate - http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/rsd/vi/...nCriteria.aspx
Texas Counties with emission tests are Vehicles registered in designated counties: Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Montgomery, Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, Travis, Williamson and El Paso counties.
IIRC there's a 24 year limit to Texas' emission's testing - meaning 1990 and older are exempt.

Re: Texas Emission Two Step
Already some C4 & C5 showing up for sale which have mods that will make it hard for them to pass if not impossible in emission counties. Some owners have "friends" that help with current inspection requirements. That option goes away in March.- Top

Re: Texas Emission Two Step
In NH 25 year old's were exempt from emissions tests too.
Wow, Here in Florida, there is NOT EVEN A SAFETY INSPECTION requirement, let alone emissions inspection. Which is a good thing for safety minded auto enthusiasts, but not necessarily good for others, along side the bald-tire'd rusted beaters I see people drive around here.
One day I saw a guy on Route 1, a 55 MPH road along the Intracoastal Wterway near me, driving a home-built swamp buggy. It had a FL registration plate on it. The guy was about 7 feet in the air on what looked like a home built fly-bridge like on a yacht. Weird stuff down here. Then we have the rat-rods with no floors, and the monster trucks. Those trucks are allowed to be at a 52" max bumper height. Not fun seeing one of those behind you.
Wait till you come to Lakeland. Expect some odd critters on 4 wheels there in the 'country'.- Top

NOT required on cars over 25 years of age in the great State of Texas....makes no difference what county you live in. I live in Collin County and drive a '67...no emissions required.Leif

Re: Texas Emission Two Step
Dale when I lived in Dallas and about 1973 I took my 1968 convertible to a inspection station. The inspector would not give me an inspection because of cracks in the taillights, 68's have four. I went to another station for inspection down the street, it was Sears and got one. Taillights are still in my 1968 in 2015. The cracks were more blemishes than anything like broken, they are still waterproof and shed water. Emission stuff still in place and working.- Top

Re: Texas Emission Two Step
Forgot to mention that Semasan tracks emission legislation and has model bills http://www.semasan.com/page.asp?cont...ns&g=semaga#tx
In the previous Texas 2011 legislative session (Texas has limited government of sorts - the legislature meets every 2 years) Texas passed and updated bill for street rod/classic cars.

Re: Texas Emission Two Step
Joel is correct. I called TX DPS and they said, basically nothing actually changed for our over 25 yr. old cars. The safety inspection info is transmitted to the registration folks. Then the 2 to 24 year old cars need to also have the emission check forwarded to registration. They did say to keep your copy of the inspection handy as the automated process could mess up.

Re: Texas Emission Two Step
as of 3/1/2015 in Texas there's no longer a separate inspection sticker - a car cannot renew it's tag without an inspection and the DMV database updated
