Re: Can I repaint a 1961 Division Panel

On another discussion board, Mike just straightened me out on '61 exterior and interior colors, so I'm "eating crow." John's '61 is Jewel Blue (like mine) but he has a black interior which uses a black trunk division panel and a black trunk mat, while mine has a blue interior with blue division panel and blue trunk mat.
I'll go back to reading my Corvette magazines and try to stay off this board.

Don't stay away, Art! We all get brain cramps from time to time.

Art, Mike's right. You should hear about a few of mine lately.

Re: Can I repaint a 1961 Division Panel

After trying several paints in the satin to semi-gloss range I used Rust-Oleum Professional Semi-Gloss 239107. It was a really good match to the original color and sheen of the repro panel. But some of the scratches and tears still showed through. So I "gave in" and ordered a repro panel and will have that for Sun 'n Fun.

This is my old panel after repainting and installing for now while I wait for a new one. My car has positraction differential. Is there supposed to be a label on the plywood (I have a round metal tag for the fill plug)?

John: From your photo, it looks like you already have the Positraction label (to the left) attached.

From a conversation I thought it went on the right. If this position is good I'm done then. Thanks...

The judging guide does not indicate the exact location of the Positraction label. I believe Noland Adams restoration guide shows it on the left, like you have it. By the way your trunk interior looks beautiful, probably better than when it left the factory.

After further review I ordered a reproduction with the "snow flake". I'll give the one I have to one of the other '61 guys in my club if they need it.
