Re: 63 balance hose clamps question
Ed,
Here a picture which may help. Original 63 clamps from surge tank to radiator have a special flanged head straight slot screw. I've never seen this type of screw except on Corvette rad/surge tank clamps. Clamps are same on 64, 65 and maybe 66. Screws can easily be made on a lathe starting with a Fillister head screw and turning head down to create the flange.
Thanks

Re: 63 balance hose clamps question
Page thats one of the clamps that was on my 63 that I was questioning, I had one of each of these style clamps on mt car. I Still have this clamp and would be wondering if the judges would take note because the Wittek clamps were more common, My car is a March car , Do you know what date was on yours?New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: 63 balance hose clamps question
My fairly original low mileage Mid May car has similar Wittek clamps to those shown above but with a hex head screw with a shoulder instead of a round head screw and the number "23" instead of "2". Would that mean that these are not original or would it mean that there are multiple "correct" clamps for this location?

Re: 63 balance hose clamps question
Hi Eddie,
My June 65 has two clamps like the one I pictured and the my July 65 has one and one Wittek. I have tried to determine who manufactured the clamp in my photo but have not had any luck. I am not familiar with the #23 Wittek clamp that Jon posted. The hex head screw usually indicates a newer clamp. I agree with Tim on the #2 Wittek clamp on the power steering hose. I find them on older Ford's and most leaked ps fluid which helped preserve the clamps. (and who said Ford.s were not good for something)- Top

Re: 63 balance hose clamps question
Page, I remember when I took my 63 a part for restoration the radiator tube had the wittek style clamp and the overflow tank had the other style clamp. I still have both, but when I restored the car I installed all new dated hose clamp kit from Long island corvette, which did not have the correct screw heads for the wittek clamps ( found out the hex head screws were incorrect at a judging event.). so now I have the wittek clamps with the correct flanged screw heads.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top
