Can someone advise the tire brands available for tires in 1965? And width of whitewall? Thanks, John

I put the Goodyear Power Cushion repros on the '65 that I just finished restoring. When I asked the question about the bias ply repros I was told that the Goodyears from Kelsey Tire were the closest to orignals for judging.

"2 ply nylon tubeless. Nylon body plies then and now. Critical for class judging. Remember, nylon has a memory, which you will feel, and leaves the vehicle environment when the normal tire operating temperature is reached. Could take somewhat longer in December than July. Usually five or so continuous miles of driving are all that is needed."

Could very early cars had wider white walls? Perhaps it just the angle but this Red '65 with knock offs sure looks wider. The gap between the wheel and the white wall looks much narrower than the Shriner photo.
Edit: Now that I think about it the steel wheel extents beyond the hubcap on the Shriner car and is black. This gave me the perception of a wider gap. This is not true with knock offs. So they probably are the same.

I can atest to the memory of th nylon repro tires. Took the car for a drive earlier in the week and there was a definite shudder until I had driven about 3 to 4 miles. Temps were in the 60's.

Mike -- those whitewalls you show on the assembly line are definitely wide.
Here's another two promo photos of the new '65s. Looks like the one with KO's has a wider whitewall as well, and appears closer to the rim of the wheel, but now I'm thinking the steel wheel car an illusion, as there's there's over a half inch of black rim exposed, even with the wheelcover installed.
