    Good question for Tony Stein

I am working on my rear susp. I bought bought a rear trailing arm front bolt & bushing kit from LI and it has a cad bolt as per the 5th edition manual but is a Rockford bolt . I also bought a bolt & bushings from GM in the 80s ( I am finding allot of parts I forgot I bought) it is black with a TR . My question is what is the 6th edition asking for Cad or black ?

    Bill,
The trailing arm pivot bolt is typically cadmium plated. The repro bolts that I have encountered are longer than the originals and the castle nut may almost go beyond the cotter key hole when tightened.
Another area overlooked is that the frame sometimes is "sucked in" when those bolts were tightened. Often that area has to be expanded/straightened a bit to get the correct shim count back in place.
Lastly, tighten those bolts/bushings with the car on the ground and the full weight is on the suspension. This way the bushings are not preloaded. I'm sure Tony will chime in and add anything I forgot.
    Hope this helps,
    Marco
