Anyone know aprox. what VIN a 63 would have switched from 091 to 087 coil? Thanks in advance

I don't think 360 and 340hp cars switched at all during the 63 model. All used 091, methinks. Low horse cars are reputed to have changed in February, between 8000 and 9800 or so... I hope that helps.Last edited by Michael G.; October 20, 2014, 04:16 AM.Mike

The change to the 087 coil (in conjunction with the 1.8 ohm ballast) only applied to 250/300 HP engines. The AIM sheet was changed 2-12-63. That date only tells you what day the sheet was actually revised, but because the parts were already available, the change would have been implemented in production soon after the ECR was approved, so the production change was likely pretty close to the date the AIM sheet was revised.
There was also a TSB published about using the 1.8 ohm ballast in very cold weather to avoid burning points. A scanned copy is somewhere in the archives, and I believe it mentioned the production change, but not the exact date, so the best one can estimate is a range of VINs where the change was implemented.
