1967 Early Trim Tag Question- Double Stamp 7 over 6 ?

Hi members. I am looking at a 1967 convertible with an AO Smith Trim Tag. It is a very early car, having been built around August 19, 1966. My question is, have any of you seen a Trim Tag with a 7 stamped over the 6 before like this one?

I have looked at many Trim Tag photos, and this one looks genuine to me, but I have never seen anything like the 7 stamped over a 6. This car VIN # is approximately 100. Please see attached photo for the 7 stamped over the 6.

    Thank you,

    Steve

I haven't seen one like it but this trim tag would be the earliest AO Smith one that I have seen. Do you know the first day of production for 1967 at AO Smith?

        Hi Robert,

I received an email back from Joe at TrimTags and he toldme this was probably the 1st or 2nd day of production, and that this tag is 100% genuine. This tag is dated August 19th, so I guess 1st day of AO Smith builds are either Aug 18 or 19.

        Thank you,

        Steve

It appears to be one of those cool factory errors that we can now enjoy looking at. My '67 VIN #350 has a transmission that is stamped #349. It matches the build date of the original Warranty Plate, it's a factory slip just like your trim tag.

Not really a big point in faking a AO Smith 1967 that I can see. It can't really be a big block, rolling the Trim Tag from AO Smith to St. Louis I've heard is what happened most of the time.

Steve, for what it is worth, my early 67 (car #183) shows "66" in the model year.

Also, I saw the trim tag off of car #182, and it showed "67".

                Mistakes happened.
