frame vin numbers.
When I took the body off the frame I could only make out a few numbers on the frame. Is there any reason I should stamp the numbers back on the frame before I put the body back on ??

Have you cleaned the area of the stampings thoroughly? Are the digits you can see consistent with the car's VIN? I'd be surprised if there was not at least some vestige of the complete stamping present.
Also, there should be TWO stampings. One is in the rear kick-up area approximately in line with the rear spindle. This is the one that can be seen, albeit with some difficulty, with the body on the frame. The other is approximately in line with the seats and cannot be seen with the body on the frame.
In any event, I would not recommend any re-stamping. You might just make something that's legit appear illegit.In Appreciation of John Hinckley -
