1966/with 427/390 Ac and heater questions

Looking for help /info. Can the heater box under the dash be removed to reseal for PV. Without having to remove or deal with the AC box and other equipment on the engine side? I have studied the drawings in the ASM however they are a little blurry. It does appear that the nuts to remove the inside heater box are on the outside and accessible. I also well be replacing the heater core since I will be there anyway.
Any help advice or methods would be appreciated. Thanks Jack

    Jack,
I think that will work. I remember installing the engine side first then installing the under dash on my 67. Like you pointed out, there are nuts on the engine side.

Don't forget the single nut on the INSIDE, on the car centerline, forward of the radio; it goes on a threaded stud that's riveted to the inside of the firewall.

Thanks to you guys for your advice, It well be a big help to me. And its very good to now know about the bolts holding it in and and where they are.
I would think that after removing the AC ducts etc, that its a 2 to 3 day project, including the resealing of the box.
Any other advice would be appreciated.

          Jack,
I did the same thing on a '67 a few years back. It is designed to be removed without removal of the Evaporator box. The dark gray plastic cover and ducting that are attached to the heater box under the glove box need to be removed, so you have enough clearance to get the unit out. There will be some clips that hold the vacuum hoses along the top of the box also. Disconnect all the cables and make sure you have removed all the nuts (from the inside and engine side). Some nuts are holding the evaporator box to the inside unit- they need to be removed. Also, remove the plate that covers the heater core.
          Hope this helps,
          Marco

            Thanks Marco
It does not sound like it is to hard of a project to remove and replace the inside box ,so I can reseal it. I would think that after removing the evaporator nuts the exterior box well stay in place? The nuts holding evap box do they come out from the engine side or inside? My AC works fine and I am just wanting to stop the blow by from the old heater seals
I appreciate your help on this
            Thanks Jack

              Jack,
The evaporator box has three nuts around the blower housing, which will hold it in place. It might be beneficial to just loosen them also, to give yourself some additional wiggle room.
