Re: 327 Crankshaft
1968 was the first year for large journal. Most small journal 327 cranks are forged steel. Most large journal 327 cranks are nodular cast iron. The exceptions: 1968 L-79 engines used in Corvettes and Chevelles and some 327 cid 1968 MD/HD trucks.
The 327 large journal cranks lived on in PRODUCTION after the 327 was discontinued as they were also used in the 307.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 327 Crankshaft
My 1969 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (Oct. 1968) lists the following in Gr. 0.646 (Crankshaft):
68 PASS. CORVETTE (307,327)(exc. Sp. H/Per.)...................3930809#
# NOTE: Some early 1968 (327) models use 1967 engines , built to 1968 spec.
These meet 1968 spec. except. as follows: Cylinder and Case Assy., Conn. Rod Assy., Crankshaft Assy., Main and Conn. Rod Bearings, Replaceable element Oil Filters, by-pass valve and related parts. These can be identified by the oil filter (1968's use the throw-away type oil filter).
68 CORVETTE w.Sp. H/Per.(327)......................................... .3941681
69 PASS., CORVETTE (350)(exc. H/Per.)...............................3932444
69 CORVETTE w/H/per.(350)......................................... .......3941184
