    65' fender split/crack - best repair adhesive ?

Greetings;I have a split at my passenger side front fender which I am going to repair. I have on hand, a few options as an adhesive & only have one chance at this. Vette Bond #870 or J.B Weld (photo below), as well as Lord Fusor which has been mentioned on the discussion board. Would anyone know know which of these three options (or other) would be best to fill the crack (about 8 inches long) with a solid joint ?I'm afraid that I ws not able to upload a photo of the split fender. It's basically the horizontal joint between the outer painted fender, and the inner black fender; next to the hood support. I will try to upload the photo in a separate post.......Thank you !photo-1.jpg

Hi Dave that is not to bad . The hard part is getting the surfaces clean first . You can pry them apart and sand them with 80 grit or use a drill or router to clean the crack . I would use the evercoat SMC panel adheasive . . The easy way is to mix it put the mixed product in a cake decorating bag ,make a small cut in the tip and squirt it into the crack. I would lightly clamp it . when it starts to set up trim the excess with a knife .

      Dave,
Lost my post so I'lltry again.
If you can get to the back of the crack, back it with glass cloth after cleaning it and scuffing with 80 grit or coarser.
If the crack moves and doesn't fair I use about 2" plates that I drill and pop rivet across the crack to hold it true to shape. Once the glass cures I drill out the pop rivets , remove the plates and V the crack, use a filler also filling the holes drilled to holt the crack from moving.
When I can't get to the back, I have found that JB works the best and won't shrink. You have to V out the crack using JB weld and it will try to run down hill, so use masking tape to keep it in the crack. The tape will pull off after the slow JB is cured. You will then be able to use a final filler to fill the holes that were drilled and get the final contour. To get a final filler over the JB weld you will have to sand it so the filler bonds to the JB.

JB always has to be sanded before you put another filler over it
