Best guess on time needed to replace a throw out bearing on a '72 4-speed

Look, I'm no mechanic. My car is scheduled have a throw out bearing replaced at a commercial transmission shop tomorrow. I need someone's best guess on how long the car would be tied up, under normal circumstances. Thanks, Dan

How much experience does the actual person doing the removal and installation of the throw out bearing have? How many C2 and C3 Corvettes has the person done before. It would be easier if your C3 had a removable crossmember like the automatic C3s have. I have done this on my 1968 a couple times, just took hours and I don't get in a hurry. Always a one day job.

Thanks Jim. These guys are really good; they've worked on my car before. I just wanted to know if I should think about waiting, or just drop the car off and arrange a ride.

Why guesstimate. Ask them if they are doing the work?

Actually, I didn't care until this morning. But, now I have a tee time at 10:30 tomorrow and I couldn't call today. So, I'll just drop the car off and have someone pick me up.

Mitchell's Flat Rate Manual gives 4.6 hours for the job. However, if you're going to be paying labor for someone to do this job, I'd highly recommend that you have the clutch replaced at the same time. The work is just about the same so why pay someone to do the same job again when you need a clutch?

Mitchell's Flat Rate Manual gives 4.6 hours for the job. However, if you're going to be paying labor for someone to do this job, I'd highly recommend that you have the clutch replaced at the same time. The work is just about the same so why pay someone to do the same job again when you need a clutch?

Hi all, thanks for the input. I really appreciate your comments. Fact is, my guy called me yesterday and told me that the clutch and throw out bearing were like new...we replaced them a couple of years ago and there's less that 1500 miles on them. Since the tranny shifts and works just fine, he thinks it's probably the pilot bearing. Anyway, thanks again...hope you all have a great day, Dan
