69 washer system for front headlights

Is the washer system supposed to squirt the front headlights when the lights are in the down position? If not, how is that detected and shut off?

Don, I really do not think the headlight washers have a shut off. They work when the washer button is depressed.

My 1970 washer squirts when lights are up and when lights are down.

For 69 (I am not sure about later) the headlight squirters only work when you press and hold the washer switch.

An electrical signal is sent to the solenoid on the drivers side of the pump when the switch is depressed and held down. This is the anti drip valve. A pin with a rubber tip seals the outlet for the headlight lines on the pump and a magnet pulls down the pin to allow water to exit the other outlet. I assume that the system does not know if the lights are up or down. I had to fix all of this two years ago a few days before my PV.

If you want windshield wipers to squirt, you just put in the switch and let go. You must hold the switch if you want headlights to wash.

The headlight washers work at the same time as the windshield washers. The pump doesn't know the difference between headlights being open or closed. There is nothing in the switch to differentiate between the two.
