wiper door closing too early, vacuum switch problem 1970

    Hello together

I am experiencing a problem with the wiper door closing too early and clamping the wipers before they are down on my 70 LS5 Corvette. This happens immediately when I toggle the wiper switch to OFF. I've had this problem before, bought a reproduction wiper door vacuum switch and installed it.

After that the problem was solved. Now I have this nasty problem again. It seems that the repro vacuum switch (on firewall, passenger side) quit working (after only 1 year).

I want to ask if any of you have also had bad experience with those repro switches? Or are there better ones outside which will last longer? I heard that the original ones from GM 5638487 were discontinued.

What would be your advice, where can I get a good product to solve this problem for more than just one year :-)

Thank you and have a nice day.

    Rudy

    Hi Rudy,
    Pretty disappointing experience!
Perhaps you might call 'Smart Parts' and ask what kind of experience their customers are having with the reproduction switch they're presently selling.

(My unscientific observation is that the batch of reproduction switches with the 'white button' rather than the the batch with the 'black button', (as original), seem to be more problematic.

      Hi Alan

You're right about that. Best thing would be to get one of these with the black button or even a NOS one.

Do you have a tip where to get one with the black "button"? Would be annoying to change this thing every year. Will also ask Small Parts.

      Thank you again.

        Hi Rudy,
I suggested Small Parts because I 'believe' they now have, (maybe have had for a while?), a switch with the black button.

Ruedi, your not suppose to drive your corvettes in the rain. That way the wipers will never break.

Ruedi if you activate the pull down switch to raise and keep the wiper door up and then use the wipers leaving the wiper door open, then turn off the wipers and after the wipers at rest close the wiper door, will this work until you can obtain a good switch?

                  Hello Jim

Thank you for your advice. That's the method I am currently using. Works fine. But will fix the problem with this switch this winter.
