    C3 paint overcoat removal

69 original (less carb and smog pump) pulled from barn after many years ,however original silver paint was covered with maroon. maroon paint is worn and original silver showing through. Looks like metal flake bass boat. Is there any way to remove the maroon paint leaving survivor quality silver paint in decent shape? Thanks

David, Your looking at stripping and painting. I agree with Bill there is really no way to remove just a top layer of paint.

Since there is a good probability you may wind up doing a repainted anyway, you might try removing the manifold (or buy a bunch of masking tape and paper) and try setting your sandblast gun to a low pressure. Being very careful use small strokes and try working the top layer off. If it doesn't work, turn the pressure up, strip it down and grab the quart of paint you bought for the manifold.

Thanks Guys! Tried sanding starting with 3000 ( about like wiping cotton baby diaper over it) and worked my way down to more agressive paper but unfortunately as predicted no way to save original silver paint.
